Mallows is ideally situated for easy access to all the North Norfolk coast’s best beaches but also offers the space, peace and quiet that you will not find in the coastal villages in the peak season. 3 miles from Wells and Stiffkey, 4 miles from Holkham and 1 mile from Walsingham with its famous steam railway, farm shop and pubs.
Mallows is one of a cluster of iconic pink Victorian cottages which formerly belonged to the Holkham Estate. It has an extremely well equipped kitchen, with everything you could need for your stay. The cottage is furnished with an eclectic mix of antique, vintage and modern furniture, fabrics and homely touches. The sitting room has a driftwood floor and wood burner, while the super-comfy super-king-sized bed in the master bedroom receives a great deal of very positive comments!
The large rear garden and graveled parking area are totally enclosed with gates and fencing, meaning total peace of mind for children and dogs alike.
- Dogs welcome at a small extra charge (£5-10, money goes to the local Hawk and Owl Trust)
- Off-road parking for up to 3 cars.
- Large TV and DVD player.
- Free wifi.
- Large collection of toys, games and books.
- Travel cot (no bedding), high chair and stair gate.
- Oven, hob, dishwasher, fridge freezer and microwave.
- Washing machine in the utility room.
- Log-burning stove, some fuel provided, more available at cost.
- Full central heating; additional electric room heaters.
Sunsets from the terrace in the back garden can be breathtaking; the gazebo offers shade for those who prefer to get out of the sun while the fenced lawn area is perfect for children and dogs to run around. Sun-lovers will enjoy the sheltered front garden with a picnic table.
Bring your bikes!
There is a myriad of small, quiet back lanes to explore (see map on the sitting room wall). Or you can ride down to Walsingham and take the mini steam train to Wells, great fun for all ages.
Bring your binoculars! Egmere teems with wildlife and I often spot twitchers in gateways, looking out for kites and buzzards. Mallows has house martins – look out for their nests under the gutters – as well as pied wagtails and wrens who nest in the shed roof.
Bring your dogs!
You can walk around the field margins straight from the cottage – but please remember that this is shooting country, so your dog will need to be under close control or on a lead. For total freedom for your pets, head for one of the many local beaches.
Guests have unlimited, exclusive access to the entire cottage.
Interaction with guests
I live 4 miles away in North Creake. I am always delighted to give advice/suggestions on the best places to go/best things to see, either in advance of, or during, guests’ stays. There is also a mass of information in the cottage, including maps. I can be contacted at any time to sort any issues with the cottage. I will be there to greet guests on, or soon after, arrival.

Other things to note
Please note that I do not provide towels for one or two night stays. I make a small charge for dogs, between £5 and £10 depending on the length of your stay. As airbnb does not have a dog tab, the dog fee is payable directly to me during your stay.
For the colder months: I provide some firewood, kindling etc. for the log burner to get you started; after that, you can either buy more firewood from me at cost or get some from any of the local garages.
